Laminated Glass

Overhead Glazing

Structural laminated glass in an overhead application at a commercial building

Overhead glazing can be designed as either structural or non-structural, depending on its location, purpose, and the specific requirements of the project. In areas where the glazing is non-trafficable, meaning no one will be walking or standing on the glass, the panel does not necessarily need to be structural. In these situations, we can incorporate our PVB interlayer, which offers excellent clarity and performance for applications where the primary function is light transmission and aesthetic enhancement rather than load-bearing capability.

For projects where the glazing will be exposed to foot traffic or must carry additional structural loads, a stronger solution is essential. In these cases, we use our SG structural interlayer, which provides superior strength, safety, and long-term durability. This interlayer is engineered to withstand significant loads, making it ideal for walk-on glass, canopies, skylights, viewing platforms, and any overhead glazing that must perform structurally.

By selecting the correct interlayer for the application, we ensure both compliance with safety standards and the highest level of performance for each unique design.

Watch the process from lamination to Installation...

We teamed up with our sister company, PTG Commercial, to deliver a complete start-to-finish solution for the Reflections Apartments project. This non-structural overhead glazing project made up of multiple panels over a few different structures around the building.

Once the glass has been laminated in our warehouse, it is placed in the oven overnight to cure before being unwrapped the following morning. From there, our PTG installation team loads the panels onto their fleet of trucks and transports them to the project site. Upon arrival, the glass is installed into the pre-existing framing, completing the final result.

Team work at its best!
