Switchable Glass
Provide electrically switchable laminated glass panels utilising Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal (PDLC) technology, capable of switching between transparent and opaque states on demand imported from USA.
Glass shall be purpose-designed for architectural applications and supplied by an approved specialist manufacturer, Polytron Glass with proven experience in switchable glass projects.
Performance Requirements
- Switching state: Transparent (ON) / Opaque (OFF).
- Switching time: ≤ 1 second.
- Visible light transmission (transparent): approx. 70% (subject to glass makeup).
- Uniform opacity when switched off, with no visible banding or shadowing.
- Suitable for daily operation in commercial and residential environments.
Glass Construction
- Laminated safety glass incorporating PDLC interlayer.
- Glass thickness and makeup to suit structural, acoustic, and safety requirements.
- Heat-treated glass where required.
- All glass to comply with relevant safety glazing standards.
Electrical Requirements
- Operating voltage: low-voltage transformer supplied by manufacturer (240v/65ac).
- Wiring concealed within framing system where possible.
- Control options to include wall switch as standard; automation or smart control optional.
Compliance
- Safety glazing to AS/NZS 2208.
- Electrical components to comply with relevant electrical standards.
- Installation to comply with the manufacturer’s written instructions, Polytron Glass Australia.
Installation
- Installation to be carried out by a glazier in accordance with the manufacturer’s (Polytron Glass) installation guidelines.
- Coordination required between glazing, electrical, and framing trades.
Warranty
- Minimum 2-year warranty on switchable panels.
- Warranty to cover switching performance and material defects under normal use.
