How does switchable glass work?

Polytron Switchable glass, also known as smart glass is laminated glass that can change from frosted to clear with the flick of a switch. This allows for instant privacy while still letting in light. Using a small electrical current that passes through a special PDLC (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal) film sandwiched between two layers of glass. When electricity is applied, the liquid crystals align, allowing light to pass through and the glass to appear clear. When the electricity is turned off, the crystals scatter light, causing the glass to turn back to frosted.
